On June 8, 2012, Rakhine Massacre occured around Maungdaw, Arakan State, Burma. After Friday prayer in the mosque, Rohingya Bengali mobs in Maungdaw town and other remote villages in Maungdaw township, started a premeditated attacks against ethnic minority Rakhine and Burmese settlers. They killed any Rakhine and Burmese they could find on that day including women and children. They stole Rakhine property and burnt down Rakhine and Burmese houses including many Buddhist monasteries. Some reports said children were thrown into the fire and elders died in the fire because they could not escape quick enough.
